Must cover entire stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your planned departure from Azerbaijan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required

Proof of exit
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your exit from Azerbaijan within the eVisa validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and contact number. Airbnb bookings are accepted if they show the full address.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Azerbaijan does not publish a fixed minimum amount, but officers may ask for bank statements or cash. Carry at least $300–$500 USD equivalent in cash or have a card with a recent statement showing available balance.Recommended
Apply early — don't leave it to the last minute
The e-visa processing time is 3 business days, but delays can happen. Apply at least 2 weeks before your departure to avoid stress.
Keep a copy of your e-visa everywhere
Print two copies — one for your bag, one for your wallet. Also save a PDF on your phone. You'll need it at check-in and at passport control.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to the official Azerbaijan e-visa portal (evisa.gov.az). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3 business days, but can be faster. You'll receive the approved visa by email.
2
Print or save your e-visa
Once approved, print a paper copy of the e-visa and also save a PDF on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and upon arrival.
3
Prepare your documents for departure
Before heading to the airport, gather: your passport (valid 6+ months), printed e-visa, return ticket, and accommodation booking. Keep them in your hand luggage.
4
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD)
After landing in Baku, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport, e-visa, and boarding pass ready. The officer will scan your passport and stamp it. The whole process usually takes 10–20 minutes.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.
