Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Kazakhstan eVisa at the official eVisa portal. Processing takes 3-5 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay in Kazakhstan. Airlines at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap may ask for 6 months validity — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Almaty and Nur-Sultan airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a notarized invitation letter from your host in Kazakhstan. Officers may ask for it at passport control.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show financial means
Have a bank statement or cash equivalent to at least $50 USD per day of your stay. Immigration rarely checks this, but it helps if questioned.Recommended
eVisa is single entry only
The Kazakhstan eVisa allows one entry. If you leave Kazakhstan (even for a day trip), you'll need a new visa to re-enter. Plan your itinerary accordingly.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa, passport, and flight booking as PDFs or screenshots on your phone. Also email them to yourself. If you lose your printed copies, you'll still have access.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Kazakhstan eVisa portal at evisa.e-gov.kz. Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online. Processing usually takes 3-5 business days.
2
Receive and save your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get the eVisa by email. Download it, print a paper copy, and save a screenshot on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Before you fly, gather your passport, eVisa, return ticket, and hotel booking. Keep them in an easily accessible folder or pouch — you'll need them at airline check-in and at immigration in Kazakhstan.
4
Arrive at a Kazakh airport
You can enter Kazakhstan through any international airport — Almaty, Nur-Sultan (Astana), Aktau, etc. At immigration, present your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly and you'll be stamped in.
