What happens at the border

1
Apply for your ETA online
Go to https://eta.gov.lk/ and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, and a valid email. Pay the fee online with a credit or debit card.
2
Wait for approval
Most ETAs are approved within 24 hours, but apply at least 3-5 days before your flight to be safe. You'll receive an email with your ETA approval — print it or save it on your phone.
3
Check in and fly
At the airport, show your passport and ETA approval at check-in. The airline will verify you have the ETA before issuing your boarding pass.
4
Arrive in Sri Lanka
At Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Colombo, go to the immigration counter. Present your passport and ETA approval. The officer will stamp your passport — that's your entry clearance.
5
Enjoy your stay
Your ETA typically allows a stay of up to 30 days. Keep your passport safe — you'll need it when you leave.
