Cambodian passport holders need a visa to enter Romania in 2026. You must apply at a Romanian embassy or consulate before you travel — there is no visa on arrival or visa-free access. Processing can take several weeks, so plan ahead.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Romanian eVisa at evisa.mae.ro/en. Processing takes up to 30 days, so submit well ahead of your trip. The eVisa is valid for a single entry and covers stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period across the entire Schengen zone.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure date from Romania. Airlines check this at check-in, and Romanian border officers enforce it strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave Romania within the eVisa validity period. Budget airlines at Otopeni Airport check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation
Have a hotel reservation, rental agreement, or host invitation letter ready. Border officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry bank statements, a credit card, or cash equivalent to at least €50 per day of your stay. Officers at Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport may ask for proof of sufficient funds.Recommended
Apply well in advance
Romanian visa processing can take 2–4 weeks, and appointments at embassies can be scarce. Don't wait until the last minute — start your application at least 6 weeks before your planned departure.
Romania uses the Schengen visa system
Even though Romania is not yet fully in the Schengen Area, it issues Schengen-compliant visas. If you already have a valid Schengen visa from another country, you can enter Romania without a separate visa for up to 90 days.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a Romanian visa online
Go to evisa.mae.ro and create an account. Fill out the application form, upload your passport scan, photo, travel itinerary, and proof of accommodation. Pay the visa fee (around €80 for a short-stay visa). Submit and wait for approval — usually 10–15 business days.
2
Receive your visa and check details
Once approved, you'll get an e-visa PDF or a sticker in your passport (depending on embassy). Double-check your name, passport number, and validity dates. Print a copy and save it on your phone.
3
Arrive in Romania and go through immigration
At Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport or any other entry point, join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa, return ticket, and accommodation proof if asked. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and length of stay. Answer clearly. You'll get an entry stamp — keep it safe.

Frequently asked questions

If you're transiting through a Romanian airport and staying airside (not passing through immigration), you generally do not need a visa for up to 24 hours. But if you need to leave the transit area or your layover is longer, you'll need a visa. Check with your airline before booking.
Standard processing is 10–15 business days after you submit a complete application. During peak season (summer), it can take up to 30 days. Apply at least 4 weeks before your trip.
A short-stay Schengen visa (which Romania uses) costs €80 for adults. Children 6–12 pay €40, and children under 6 are free. Fees are non-refundable even if your visa is denied.
No, the visa is not extendable for tourism. If you need to stay longer, you must leave and re-apply from your home country. Overstaying can result in fines and a ban.
You can appeal the decision within 30 days by writing to the Romanian embassy that processed your application. Common reasons for rejection include incomplete documents, insufficient funds, or unclear travel purpose. Reapply with stronger evidence.
Romania is not yet a full Schengen member for land borders, but a Romanian visa allows you to travel to other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period, as long as Romania is your main destination. Always check the latest rules before crossing borders.
Have your passport with the visa, return ticket, accommodation booking, and proof of travel insurance ready. The officer may also ask for proof of funds — around €50 per day of stay is a good guideline. Keep everything in your hand luggage.
