What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6 months from arrival) and ensure at least one blank page. Print or download your return ticket and hotel booking. Keep them accessible on your phone or in your carry-on.
2
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku
Most visitors fly into Baku. Follow the 'Foreign Passports' signs to the immigration hall. Join the queue for non-residents.
3
Present your passport to the border officer
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your details, possibly ask about the purpose of your visit and where you are staying. Answer clearly. They will stamp your passport with a 30-day entry stamp.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There is usually a green 'nothing to declare' channel if you have no restricted items. You are free to enter Azerbaijan.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free entry is not extendable. You must leave Azerbaijan before the 30 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines and a ban from re-entry. If you need to stay longer, you would have to leave and re-enter, but that is not guaranteed to reset the clock — best to plan for exactly 30 days or less.
No. No arrival declaration is required for South Korean passport holders. Unlike some nationalities, you do not need to register with the State Migration Service within 15 days. Just keep your entry stamp safe.
No. Azerbaijani immigration requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival. If it is shorter, you will be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport before traveling.
Yes, the visa-free policy applies at all border crossings, not just airports. However, land borders can have longer queues and more scrutiny. Make sure you have the same documents ready — passport validity, blank page, and proof of onward travel.
No. There is no visa fee for South Korean citizens entering Azerbaijan for up to 30 days. You just walk up to immigration with your passport. No payment is collected at the border.
You cannot extend the visa-free period. You would need to leave Azerbaijan and apply for a different type of visa (like an e-visa or embassy visa) before your next entry, but that is a separate process. For a simple 30-day trip, you are fine without any visa.
It is not a formal requirement, but immigration officers may ask how you will support yourself during your stay. Having a credit card or a few hundred dollars in cash is usually enough to satisfy them. It is rare, but be prepared.
