Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the period you plan to stay in Cyprus. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Cypriot law, but some airlines may ask for 3 to 6 months validity — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cyprus
Immigration officers at Larnaca and Paphos airports regularly ask for a return or onward ticket within the 90-day visa-free period. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines often check this before boarding as well.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask for a hotel reservation, rental agreement, or a letter from your host in Cyprus. Have a printed confirmation or a digital copy on your phone ready to show.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Officers can request evidence of enough funds to cover your trip — roughly €50–€100 per day of stay. A recent bank statement, credit card, or cash is acceptable.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If it's less than 6 months from your entry date, you won't be allowed to board. Renew early.
Cyprus is not in Schengen (yet)
Cyprus is legally required to join Schengen but hasn't yet. Your 90-day visa-free stay is separate from the Schengen 90/180-day rule. However, days spent in Cyprus count toward your Schengen stay if you later enter Schengen countries.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you fly, check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date) and print or save your return ticket, hotel booking, and insurance docs. Screenshots on your phone are fine.
2
Arrive at Larnaca or Paphos airport
Most flights from South Korea arrive via connecting hubs (e.g., Athens, Istanbul). At Larnaca or Paphos, follow signs to 'All Passports' or 'Non-EU' queues.
3
Present your passport at immigration
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp you in for up to 90 days.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare. You're in.

Frequently asked questions

No. Visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, and family visits only. If you plan to work (even remote work for a foreign company), you technically need a work permit. For short business trips, it's usually fine, but don't take a local job.
No, the visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Cyprus or the Schengen area before 90 days. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, or a ban. If you need longer, apply for a national visa before travel.
South Korean passport holders can enter Northern Cyprus (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) visa-free for up to 30 days. However, note that crossing from the Republic of Cyprus side may cause issues with Greek Cypriot authorities. It's safer to enter directly from Turkey.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or entry by immigration. Renew your passport before travel. Some airlines check this at check-in, so don't risk it.
Not routinely, but an officer may ask if they suspect you can't support yourself. Have a credit card or bank statement ready. A few hundred euros in cash or card limit is usually enough.
Yes, Cyprus accepts valid Schengen visas for short stays (up to 90 days). But since South Koreans are visa-free, you don't need one. If you have a Schengen visa, you can use it, but it's not required.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may be fined, deported, and banned from re-entering Cyprus or the Schengen area for up to 5 years. Always track your days carefully.
