Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Guyana. Airlines at Incheon and Gimhae check this before boarding. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Guyanese immigration.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Guyana
Immigration at Cheddi Jagan International Airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. Budget airlines like Caribbean Airlines also check this at check-in. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host covers this. Keep a copy on your phone.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers can request evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. Having a credit card or bank statement with a few hundred US dollars available usually satisfies them. No specific minimum amount is published.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Guyana requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines check this before you board — if you're short, you won't even get on the plane.
No visa, but still need a ticket out
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration officers will almost certainly ask for proof of a return or onward ticket. Have a screenshot ready on your phone.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO)
Most visitors fly into Georgetown's main airport. After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. There are usually two queues: one for Guyanese citizens, one for foreigners. Join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your passport and ticket
Hand over your passport and, if asked, your return ticket. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp you in, and write the number of days allowed (usually 30). This takes 1–2 minutes if there's no queue.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually a green channel for nothing to declare. You're free to go.
