Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Mongolia. Airlines may ask for 6 months validity beyond your departure date, but Mongolian immigration only requires validity covering your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Mongolia
Immigration officers at Ulaanbaatar's Chinggis Khaan International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone showing your departure flight.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Mongolia. Border officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $50 USD per day of your stay. Officers almost never check this for South Korean passport holders, but the law allows them to ask.Recommended
Time zone note
Mongolia is in UTC+8, same as Beijing and Perth. No daylight saving in most of the country.
Medical costs can be high
If you get sick or injured, a hospital stay can cost hundreds of dollars per day. Travel insurance is strongly recommended — don't skip it.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport
You'll land at Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN) in Ulaanbaatar. Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration counters.
2
Present your passport and ticket
Hand over your passport and your return/onward ticket if asked. The officer will check your passport validity and stamp you in.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually no customs declaration unless you're carrying large amounts of cash or restricted goods.

You'll likely be denied boarding by the airline or entry by Mongolian immigration. Renew your passport before traveling.
No, there's no official requirement to show bank statements or cash on arrival. But if you look like you might overstay or work illegally, they could ask — so it's smart to have a credit card or some cash handy.
No, Mongolia does not require an arrival declaration for South Korean passport holders. You just go through immigration with your passport and ticket.
Yes, the same visa-free rules apply at land borders. Just make sure your passport is valid and you have a return ticket. The most common land crossings are from Russia at Kyakhta/Altanbulag and from China at Erlian/Zamiin-Uud.
The local currency is the Mongolian Tögrög (MNT). ATMs are available in Ulaanbaatar and major towns, but outside the capital, cash is king. Bring some US dollars or euros to exchange — they're widely accepted at exchange offices.
No mandatory vaccinations for entry, but routine vaccines (hepatitis A, typhoid, rabies) are recommended if you're traveling to rural areas. Check with your doctor 4-6 weeks before departure.
