Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Venezuela. Airlines check this at check-in. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Venezuelan law, but carry a copy of your passport data page separately.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration at Maiquetía Airport (CCS) routinely asks for a return or onward ticket within 90 days. Have a printed copy or show it on your phone. Airlines also verify this before boarding.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host letter
Officers may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number works. Keep a copy handy.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash, card, or bank statement
Venezuelan immigration can request evidence you can support yourself. Carry at least $200 USD equivalent in cash (US dollars are widely accepted) or a recent bank statement. Cards work poorly due to sanctions.Recommended
Safety and security
Venezuela has high levels of crime, especially in Caracas and other major cities. Avoid displaying valuables, use official taxis, and stay in well-reviewed accommodations. Check your government's travel advisory before booking.
Currency and cash
ATMs are unreliable and often run out of cash. Bring enough US dollars in small denominations for your entire stay. Exchange at official exchange houses or banks — avoid street changers.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry), print or save your return ticket and hotel booking, and arrange travel insurance. Download an eSIM if you want data on arrival.
2
Arrive at Venezuelan immigration
At Maiquetía Simón Bolívar International Airport (CCS) or any land border, join the foreign passport queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation proof ready. The officer will stamp your passport and may ask your purpose and length of stay.
3
Receive entry stamp and 90-day stay
The officer will stamp your passport with a tourist entry valid for up to 90 days. Count your days from that stamp. If you want to stay longer, you must apply for an extension before the 90 days expire.
4
Exit Venezuela
Before your 90 days are up, leave via any airport or land border. Make sure your passport has a blank page for the exit stamp. Overstaying can result in fines or future entry bans.
