Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Kuwaiti passport only needs to be valid for the time you plan to stay in Albania. Airlines at Kuwait International Airport may ask to see your passport before boarding — they rarely enforce the 6-month rule for Albania, but having at least 3 months remaining avoids any argument at the check-in counter.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Albania
Immigration officers at Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. A bus or ferry ticket to a neighboring Schengen country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation email or a letter from a host with their address and phone number is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Albanian law requires visitors to have at least €50 per person per day of stay. A bank statement or credit card with a sufficient limit works. I have never been asked for this at Tirana, but keep a recent statement on your phone just in case.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Albania, not from when you leave. If it expires sooner, you'll be turned away.
Overstaying is not worth it
The 90-day visa-free period is not extendable. Overstaying can lead to fines (around 1,000–2,000 ALL per day) and a possible entry ban. Plan your exit accordingly.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at border control
At Tirana International Airport (or any land border), join the queue for non-EU/non-Albanian passports. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your validity, glance at you, and stamp you in. They may ask how long you're staying and where you're staying.
3
Answer any questions
If asked, state your hotel name and the number of days (up to 90). Keep it simple. They rarely ask for return tickets or proof of funds, but have them accessible.
4
Collect your passport and go
Once stamped, you're free to enter. The whole process usually takes under 2 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free period is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave Albania (e.g., to a neighboring country) and re-enter, but immigration may question frequent back-to-back visits. Overstaying can result in fines of 1,000–2,000 ALL per day and a possible entry ban.
No. If you're transiting through Albania (e.g., flying from Kuwait to another country with a layover in Tirana), you don't need a visa as long as you stay airside and don't pass through immigration. But if you leave the transit area, you'll need to meet the same visa-free entry requirements.
You will be denied entry. Albanian immigration strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule. Renew your passport before traveling.
No. The 90-day visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, or short visits only. For work or study, you must apply for the appropriate visa or residence permit before traveling.
Your passport (valid 6+ months), a return/onward ticket (screenshot is fine), and your first night's hotel booking. Travel insurance is not required but recommended. Proof of funds (cash or card) is rarely asked but having a bank statement or credit card helps.
As of 2026, there are no COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements for entry into Albania. No health declarations are needed. However, check for any updates closer to your travel date.
