Overstaying is expensive and risky
Chinese immigration enforces the 30-day limit strictly. Overstaying even by a day can result in fines and a possible entry ban. Set a reminder on your phone a few days before your visa-free period ends.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Chinese immigration
At any major international airport (Beijing Capital, Shanghai Pudong, Guangzhou, etc.), follow the signs for 'Foreigners' or 'Non-Chinese Citizens'. Join the queue for visa-free entry.
2
Present your passport and boarding pass
Hand over your passport and sometimes your boarding pass. The officer will scan your passport and may ask a few quick questions about where you're staying and how long you plan to be in China.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 30 days). Check the stamp before you leave the counter — make sure the dates are correct.
4
Proceed to baggage claim and customs
After immigration, collect your luggage and walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no restricted items. You're now in China.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free entry is not extendable. If you want to stay longer than 30 days, you must apply for a proper visa (like an L or M visa) at a Chinese embassy or consulate before you travel. Overstaying can lead to fines and possible detention.
Yes, you can enter multiple times as long as each stay is 30 days or less. However, if you leave and come back immediately, immigration may question whether you're actually a tourist. It's best to have a genuine reason and some time between visits.
The visa-free entry is strictly for tourism, business, or visiting family. If you plan to work or study, you must get the appropriate visa (Z or X visa) from a Chinese embassy or consulate before you arrive. Working on a visa-free entry is illegal and can get you deported.
No, China does not require an arrival declaration for Kuwaiti citizens. You just go through immigration with your passport. However, you may be asked to fill out a health declaration form if there's an ongoing health situation — just follow the instructions at the airport.
Yes, but note that Hong Kong and Macau have their own visa policies. As a Kuwaiti citizen, you can enter Hong Kong visa-free for up to 30 days and Macau for up to 90 days. When you cross into mainland China, the 30-day visa-free period starts from that point.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll likely be fined around 500 RMB per day of overstay (up to 10,000 RMB), and you could be detained while they process your exit. In severe cases, you might be banned from re-entering China for a period. Always leave before your stamp expires.
Yes, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival. This is a strict rule — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at immigration.
