Kuwaiti passport holders must obtain a visa before traveling to Turkmenistan. There is no visa-on-arrival or eVisa option, so you'll need to apply through the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Kuwait City. The process requires a Letter of Invitation and can take several weeks, so start early.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Turkmenistan visaYou cannot get this visa online or on arrival — start the embassy application well in advance.
Apply at an embassy/consulate
A visa is required for Kuwaiti passport holders. You must apply at a Turkmen embassy or consulate before travel; an eVisa is not available for your nationality.Required

Not required
No separate arrival declaration is required for Kuwaiti passport holders entering Turkmenistan. Not required
No visa-on-arrival or eVisa — plan ahead
Kuwaiti passport holders cannot get a Turkmenistan visa on arrival or through an eVisa. You must apply at an embassy with a Letter of Invitation. Start the process at least 4 weeks before your trip to avoid disappointment.
Letter of Invitation is the key hurdle
Your host in Turkmenistan must submit the LOI to the State Migration Service. This can take time, so coordinate with your hotel or business partner early. Make sure the LOI is approved before you submit your visa application.
Visa is not extendable
Once you're in Turkmenistan, you cannot extend your visa. Overstaying even a day can lead to fines and deportation. Book your exit flight carefully and leave before your visa expires.

What happens at the border

1
Get a Letter of Invitation
Contact your host in Turkmenistan (hotel, tour company, or business partner) and ask them to apply for a Letter of Invitation with the State Migration Service. This can take 1–3 weeks. You'll need the LOI reference number or a copy to include with your visa application.
2
Prepare your application documents
Gather your passport (valid 6+ months), completed visa application form, two photos, the LOI, proof of accommodation, flight itinerary, and visa fee. Double-check that your name is spelled exactly as in your passport.
3
Submit your application at the embassy
Visit the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Kuwait City. Submit your documents in person or via a representative if the embassy allows. The embassy will review and forward your application for approval.
4
Wait for processing
Processing can take 5–10 working days, sometimes longer if the migration service needs to verify your LOI. Plan to apply at least 3–4 weeks before your intended travel date.
5
Collect your visa and travel
Once approved, you'll receive your visa — either a sticker in your passport or a separate document. Check the validity dates and entry/exit points. When you arrive in Turkmenistan, present your passport and visa at immigration. Keep a copy of your LOI and hotel booking with you.
