Laos passport holders need an eVisa to enter DR Congo. The eVisa is valid for tourism and business visits, and you must apply online before you travel. This requirement is in effect as of 2026.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
DR Congo eVisa
Apply online at the DR Congo eVisa portal before you travel. The eVisa is mandatory for Lao passport holders — there is no visa on arrival. Processing takes 3–5 business days, so apply at least a week before your departure.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from DR Congo
Your passport needs at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Immigration at N'djili Airport in Kinshasa checks validity strictly — if your passport expires within 6 months of your departure date, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Airlines and immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket out of DR Congo. Without one, you may be refused boarding in Vientiane or at your transit point. A bus or ferry ticket to a neighbouring country also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in DR Congo. Immigration at Kinshasa may ask for it during the entry interview. A simple Booking.com confirmation with your name and dates is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Evidence of sufficient money for your stay
Carry a bank statement or a credit card showing you can cover your expenses. DR Congo is a cash-heavy country — bring US dollars in small denominations (clean, post-2013 bills) for taxis, food, and visa fees at the border.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory
You must have a yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) to enter DR Congo. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport (if available).
eVisa application is online only
There is no embassy or consulate application for the eVisa. Use the official government website: visa.gouv.cd. Avoid third-party sites that charge extra.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official DR Congo eVisa website (visa.gouv.cd). Fill out the application form, upload your passport scan and photo, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the eVisa by email.
2
Print or save your eVisa
Once approved, print a paper copy and also save a digital copy on your phone. Immigration at Kinshasa's N'djili Airport (FIH) or Lubumbashi Airport (FBM) will ask to see it.
3
Prepare your documents for departure
Before you leave, gather your passport (valid 6+ months), eVisa printout, return ticket, and first-night hotel booking. Keep them in your carry-on.
4
Arrive and go through immigration
At the airport, proceed to the immigration counter. Hand over your passport, eVisa, and return ticket. The officer may ask a few questions about your stay. After stamping, you're in. No additional visa on arrival process needed.
