Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Rwanda. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Rwanda
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Without one, you may be refused entry and placed on the next flight out at your own expense.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed or digital hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Rwanda. Immigration may ask where you are staying, and not having an answer can delay your clearance.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Carry at least $200 USD in cash or have a credit card with available balance. Immigration officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to show you can cover your expenses without working.Recommended
No visa needed — just show up
Laos passport holders get 30 days visa-free in Rwanda. No application, no fee, no forms. Just a valid passport and a return ticket.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. Airlines check this before boarding. If you're close to expiry, renew first.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kigali International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. There are separate queues for visa-free nationals and visa-on-arrival. You'll join the visa-free line.
2
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport (with 6+ months validity). The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation booking. Have them ready on your phone or printed.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. No fee, no forms. The whole process takes 5–10 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel, then walk through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're in Rwanda.
