Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for a Kazakhstan eVisa at the official eVisa portal. The application takes about 15 minutes — upload your passport scan and a digital photo. Processing time is 3 to 5 business days, and the eVisa is valid for 30 days from issue.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Kazakhstan. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Kazakh law, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Almaty and Nur-Sultan airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your booking ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Kazakhstan. Border officers may ask for it, especially if you're staying with friends or family.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a bank statement or at least $500 USD equivalent in cash or card. Officers rarely check it, but it's a formal requirement for entry.Recommended
eVisa only valid at airports
You cannot use the eVisa to enter Kazakhstan via land borders. You must fly into an international airport such as Almaty or Nur-Sultan.
Print your eVisa
The eVisa is a PDF. Print it and keep it with your passport. A digital copy on your phone is not sufficient for immigration.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.e-gov.kz, create an account, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport photo, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the eVisa as a PDF by email.
2
Print the eVisa and pack your documents
Print the eVisa approval and keep it with your passport. Also print or save on your phone: your return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance certificate.
3
Arrive at a Kazakh airport
You must enter Kazakhstan through an international airport — land borders are not open for eVisa holders. At immigration, hand over your passport and printed eVisa. The officer will stamp you in. No separate visa-on-arrival queue.
4
Show your return ticket if asked
Immigration officers sometimes ask for proof of onward travel. Have your return ticket screenshot ready on your phone or a printed copy.
