Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az. The standard processing takes 3 working days (urgent 3-hour service available for an extra fee). Print the approved eVisa and carry it with your passport — border officers scan the barcode on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Sri Lankan passport must be valid for at least the full duration of your stay in Azerbaijan. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers in Baku will deny boarding if your passport expires before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Azerbaijan immigration requires proof of a return or onward flight out of the country. Have a printed or digital copy of your ticket ready — officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport check this at passport control.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host in Azerbaijan. Immigration may ask for it at the border, especially if you're staying at a private address rather than a hotel.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card ready to show you have enough money for your stay. Officers rarely ask for this, but it's better to have proof than risk being questioned at immigration.Recommended
eVisa is single entry only
The eVisa allows one entry. If you leave Azerbaijan (even for a day trip to Georgia), you'll need a new visa to re-enter.
Passport validity is strict
Azerbaijan immigration enforces the 6-month passport validity rule strictly. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding or entry.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Azerbaijan eVisa portal (evisa.gov.az). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee. Processing takes about 3 business days. You'll receive the approved visa by email.
2
Print or save the eVisa
Once approved, print a copy of the eVisa and also save a digital copy on your phone. You'll need to show it at immigration in Baku.
3
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD)
When you land in Baku, head to the foreign passport queue. Have your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer may ask a few questions about your trip. The process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passing immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. There are no arrival forms to fill out.
