What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the Royal Oman Police eVisa website (evisa.rop.gov.om). Fill in your personal details, passport info, travel dates, and accommodation. Upload a passport-style photo and a copy of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around 20 OMR for a tourist visa) with a credit card. Approval usually takes 1–3 business days.
2
Pack your documents
Print or save to your phone: your eVisa approval email, passport, return ticket, and hotel booking confirmation. Keep them together in a folder or a dedicated phone album.
3
Arrive at Muscat International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Join the queue for non-GCC nationals. Hand over your passport and eVisa printout (or show on phone). The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly. You'll get a stamp and can proceed to baggage claim.

Frequently asked questions

Most applications are processed within 1–3 business days. Apply at least a week before your trip to be safe. You'll receive the approval by email.
No, the standard tourist eVisa is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must leave and reapply, or check if a different visa type (like a visit visa sponsored by a local) is available.
Rejections are rare but can happen if your documents are incomplete or your passport has less than 6 months validity. You can reapply with corrected info. There's no official appeal process, but contacting the Royal Oman Police visa helpline may help.
If you're staying airside and your layover is under 6 hours, you generally don't need a visa. For longer layovers or if you want to leave the airport, you'll need an eVisa. Check with your airline for specific transit rules.
No, Sri Lankan passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Oman. You must have an approved eVisa before you travel.
Your passport (valid 6+ months), printed or digital eVisa approval, return flight ticket, and hotel booking confirmation. The officer may ask for any of these, so have them ready.
Not for entry, but it's strongly recommended. Medical costs in Oman are high — a basic policy covers hospital stays and emergency evacuation. Some eVisa applications ask for insurance details, so it's safer to have it.
