Sri Lankan passport holders need an e-visa to enter Uganda. The process is entirely online and straightforward — you apply before you travel. As of 2026, the e-visa is the standard way to get permission to enter for tourism, business, or transit.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official portal before departure. The eVisa is valid for 90 days from issue and allows a single entry stay of up to 90 days. Processing takes 2–5 business days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Uganda
Your passport needs at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Uganda strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Entebbe Airport. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready. If you're overlanding out, a bus or ferry booking also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Uganda. Immigration may ask where you're staying on arrival — having a booking ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Have at least $300 USD in cash or a recent bank statement showing available funds. Immigration can ask how you'll support yourself during your stay — showing $50–100 per day is the informal benchmark.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
Uganda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers over 1 year old. You must show the yellow card at immigration. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel — no exceptions.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your e-visa approval, passport, return ticket, and hotel booking as PDFs on your phone and email them to yourself. If you lose your printed documents, you can show them on your phone.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your e-visa online
Go to the official Uganda Immigration e-visa portal (visas.immigration.go.ug). Fill in the application form, upload your passport photo and passport bio page, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 2-5 business days. Print the approval letter once it arrives.
2
Prepare your documents for travel
Before you leave, print or save to your phone: your e-visa approval, return ticket, hotel booking confirmation, and passport. Keep them together in a folder or clear plastic sleeve.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport (or land border)
At immigration, present your passport, e-visa approval, and return ticket. The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date and allowed stay. The process is usually quick — 5-10 minutes if you have everything ready.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Then you're free to exit the airport.

No. Sri Lankan passport holders must have an approved e-visa before travel. There is no visa-on-arrival option for your nationality.
The standard single-entry e-visa costs around $50 USD (approximately 185,000 UGX). Fees are paid online during the application. Check the official portal for the exact current fee.
Your e-visa application will likely be rejected. You must renew your passport first. The 6-month validity is counted from your date of entry into Uganda.
Yes, Uganda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers over 1 year old. You'll need to show the yellow card (International Certificate of Vaccination) at immigration. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.
The e-visa does not allow extensions. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a different visa type (e.g., a visitor's pass or special pass) at the Uganda Immigration headquarters in Kampala before your current visa expires.
Overstaying can result in a fine of about $50 USD per day (or more, depending on the duration). You may also face a ban or difficulty re-entering. Always leave before your visa expires.
