Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Lithuanian passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in Moldova. Moldova does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but your airline might ask for it at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Moldova
Immigration officers at Chișinău Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight reservation ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
You may be asked where you are staying. A hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host with their address is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Border officers can ask for evidence of sufficient funds. Carry a bank statement or a credit card that shows you have at least €50 per day of your stay.Recommended
Border crossing from Transnistria
If you plan to visit Transnistria, you'll pass through a separate checkpoint. Moldovan immigration does not control that border. You can enter Transnistria visa-free, but re-entering Moldova from Transnistria may involve extra checks. Keep your Moldovan entry stamp safe — you'll need it to prove legal entry.
Overstaying the 90-day limit
Overstaying even by one day can result in a fine (400–800 MDL) and a ban from re-entering Moldova for up to 6 months. Set a phone reminder to leave before day 90.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at border checkpoint
Whether you fly into Chișinău International Airport or cross by land from Romania or Ukraine, proceed to passport control. At the airport, follow signs to the 'Foreign Passports' queue.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your Lithuanian passport. The officer will scan it, check your photo, and may ask your length of stay and accommodation. Answer clearly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date. Verify the stamp is legible before stepping away. Keep the stamp dry for a few seconds.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim (if flying), then customs. For personal items, there's usually nothing to declare. Walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare.
