Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Armenia. Border officers at Zvartnots Airport check this carefully. If your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Armenia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy ready. Airlines also check this before boarding your flight to Yerevan.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Border control can request evidence of sufficient funds. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have at least 50,000 AMD (around $130) per day of your visit.Recommended
Visa-free for 180 days per year
You can stay up to 180 days in any 365-day period. This is generous, but don't assume you can stay the full 180 days every year — immigration tracks total days. If you leave and re-enter, the clock resets only after you've been out of Armenia for a full 180 days.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Armenian immigration will deny entry if your passport has less than 6 months of validity left from your arrival date. No exceptions. Check your passport expiry before booking flights.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Yerevan airport or land border
Fly into Zvartnots International Airport (Yerevan) or enter via a land border from Georgia, Iran, or Turkey. At passport control, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your Luxembourg passport. The officer will check your photo, validity, and stamp you in. No visa is needed, so no additional documents are required.
3
Receive entry stamp
You'll get an entry stamp valid for up to 180 days. The officer may ask your purpose of visit (tourism is fine) and how long you plan to stay. Answer honestly.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, pick up your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. Green channel for nothing to declare, red channel for goods over €10,000 or restricted items.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 180-day visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or short visits only. If you plan to work, you need a work visa or residence permit. Overstaying or working without authorization can result in fines or deportation.
No, the visa-free period cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Armenia and re-enter after a short absence, or apply for a temporary residence permit (valid for 1 year) through the Migration Service in Yerevan.
You will be denied entry. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. If it's close to expiring, renew it before you travel. Same rule applies for all foreign nationals entering Armenia.
No. There is no registration requirement for visa-free stays up to 180 days. Just keep your entry stamp safe. If you stay longer than 180 days (with a residence permit), you must register your address with the Migration Service within 30 days.
Armenia does not automatically deny entry for most criminal records, but serious offenses (especially drug trafficking, terrorism, or violent crimes) may lead to refusal. There is no formal ban for minor convictions. If in doubt, check with the Armenian embassy before traveling.
Overstaying is a violation of immigration law. You may be fined (around 50,000–100,000 AMD, roughly €120–€240) and could be banned from re-entering for a period. Always leave before your stamp expires.
No. If you are transiting through Armenia (e.g., flying from Europe to Asia with a layover in Yerevan), you do not need a visa as long as you stay in the international transit area and your layover is under 24 hours. If you leave the airport, you must enter visa-free (up to 180 days).
