Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa at the airport upon arrival. Have $25 USD in cash ready for a single-entry visa (valid 30 days). The visa counter is before passport control — follow the signs. You'll need a passport photo if you don't have one, but many officers accept the fee without it.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Valid passport
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date in Egypt. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied at the gate. No exceptions at Cairo Airport.Required
Return or onward ticket
Return or onward ticket
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination. Without it, you may be questioned and potentially denied entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking confirmations or an invitation letter from your host can speed up the visa-on-arrival process. Officers rarely ask, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Proof of funds
Carry at least $1,000 USD in cash or have a credit card with sufficient limit. Immigration may ask how you'll support yourself during your stay. Bank statements or a recent pay stub work as proof.Recommended
Cash only at the bank kiosk
The visa fee must be paid in cash (USD, EUR, or GBP). Cards are not accepted. ATMs are available after immigration, but you need cash before that.
Visa on arrival is straightforward
Luxembourg passport holders have been using this process for years. It's reliable, fast, and the same at all Egyptian airports. No pre-approval needed.

What happens at the border

1
Land and head to the bank kiosk
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Bank' or 'Visa on Arrival' before immigration. At Cairo Airport, the kiosk is on the left just before the passport control hall. Pay USD 25 (or equivalent) and get a receipt.
2
Proceed to immigration
Hand over your passport, the bank receipt, and (if asked) your return ticket and accommodation booking. The officer will stamp the visa sticker into your passport. This takes 2–5 minutes.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually no customs declaration for personal items. You're free to enter.
