Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Luxembourg passport needs to be valid only for the time you plan to stay in Panama. Airlines sometimes enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Panama
Immigration officers at Tocumen International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket before granting entry. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Panama doesn't publish a fixed minimum, but carrying a credit card and around $500 USD in cash or bank statements avoids delays. ATMs are widely available in Panama City.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Panama, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, you'll be denied entry.
No visa extension available
The 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. Plan your trip accordingly. If you need to stay longer, you must leave and re-enter after a short absence.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Tocumen International Airport (PTY)
Most Luxembourg travellers fly into Panama City's Tocumen Airport. Follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration).
2
Join the foreign passport queue
There are separate lines for nationals and foreigners. Look for the 'Pasaportes Extranjeros' sign. Wait time is usually 15–30 minutes.
3
Present your documents
Hand over your passport and any requested documents (return ticket, accommodation). The officer will stamp your passport with a 90-day entry.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Panama.
