Luxembourg passport holders can enter Slovakia without a visa for short stays. Starting in 2026, you can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism, business, or family visits. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Luxembourg passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in Slovakia. As a Schengen area member, Slovakia does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but your airline might enforce it — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Slovak border crossings routinely ask for a return ticket or proof of onward travel out of the Schengen zone. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this at passport control.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from your host in Slovakia. Officers rarely ask for it, but if they do, you need to show where you're staying for the first few nights.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card ready showing access to around €50–€100 per day of your trip. Border officers in Slovakia rarely check this for EU citizens, but it's safer to have proof available.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Slovakia. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.
Schengen 90/180 day rule applies
Your 90-day visa-free stay is shared across all 27 Schengen countries. If you've already spent 30 days in France, you only have 60 days left for Slovakia and the rest of Schengen. Use the Schengen calculator to track your days.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Slovak border or airport
At Bratislava Airport or any land border, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport ready. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask about your trip purpose and accommodation.
2
Present documents if asked
If the officer requests, show your return ticket and accommodation booking. Keep them easily accessible — not buried in your bag.
3
Get entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. This stamp is your proof of legal entry. Keep your passport safe for the duration of your stay.
4
Exit Schengen area
When leaving Slovakia or any Schengen country, you'll go through passport control again. The exit stamp closes your visit. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban.

Frequently asked questions

You can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This is the standard Schengen rule. If you've already spent time in other Schengen countries, count those days too.
No. The 90-day limit is strict and cannot be extended for tourism. For longer stays, you'd need a national visa or residence permit, which you must apply for before your 90 days expire.
No, if you're transiting through a Slovak airport and staying airside (not passing through immigration), you don't need a visa. But if you need to enter the country (e.g., to switch terminals or stay overnight), the same visa-free rules apply.
You'll likely be denied boarding by your airline or refused entry at the border. Renew your passport before traveling. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced.
No, for short stays (under 90 days) you don't need to register. Hotels handle their own registration. If staying with friends or family, they may need to notify the local Foreign Police office within 3 working days.
No, the visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, or family visits only. Remote work for a foreign employer is technically not allowed. For digital nomad purposes, you'd need a specific Slovak residence permit.
You risk a fine, deportation, and a re-entry ban to the entire Schengen area. The fine varies but can be several hundred euros. Always track your days carefully.
