Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Latvian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in the Czech Republic. Since you're entering the Schengen zone, the 90/180-day rule applies across all 27 Schengen countries — not just the Czech Republic. Border officers at Prague Václav Havel Airport rarely check passport validity beyond the stay itself, but your airline might ask for 3 months validity at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration at Prague Airport asks for a return or onward ticket on every entry. This can be a flight, train, or bus ticket leaving the Schengen zone within your 90-day visa-free window. Budget airlines like Ryanair or Wizz Air also check this at the gate before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a signed letter from a friend you're staying with. Czech border officers ask for this maybe 1 in 10 times — mostly if you look like you're working remotely or staying long. A printed booking confirmation works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Officers can ask for proof of funds — roughly 1,100 CZK (~€45) per day of your stay. A bank statement from the last 30 days or a credit card with a decent limit covers this. They almost never ask for cash, but having a card with €1,000+ available shuts down any questions.Recommended
Schengen 90/180 rule applies
Your 90-day limit is for the entire Schengen area, not just the Czech Republic. Days spent in France, Germany, Italy, etc. all count. Use the EU's Schengen calculator to track your time.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, gather your passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and insurance. Save digital copies on your phone and print backups.
2
Arrive at the airport in Prague or elsewhere
At Václav Havel Airport Prague or any other entry point, follow signs to 'Non-EU Passports' or 'All Passports'. Join the queue for non-Schengen citizens.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask about the purpose of your visit, how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly.
4
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. Check the stamp is legible before walking away. This stamp starts your 90-day clock.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. You're now in the Czech Republic.
