Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Guatemala. Airlines check this at check-in — if it expires before you leave, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Guatemala
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at passport control. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone — they won't let you through without one.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers sometimes ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host covers this — keep a copy in your carry-on.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You may be asked to show you have enough money for your stay. A bank statement or credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies the officer.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Guatemala. Airlines check this at check-in — if you are short, they will not let you board.
No visa, no fee
Latvian passport holders do not need to pay any visa fee. Entry is free for stays up to 90 days.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
At Guatemala City's La Aurora Airport (or any land border), join the 'Extranjeros' line. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in for up to 90 days. No forms to fill out.
2
Show your passport and ticket
Hand over your passport and, if asked, your return/onward ticket. The officer may also ask where you are staying. Answer clearly. The whole process takes 2-5 minutes.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date and the number of days granted (usually 90). Check the stamp before walking away. If it says fewer days than you expected, ask politely for clarification.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You will likely walk through a green/red channel. Unless you are carrying something to declare, go green.
