Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Latvian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Hong Kong. No minimum validity beyond your stay is required by Hong Kong immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Hong Kong
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket out of Hong Kong. A flight booking to mainland China, Macau, or any other destination works — just show you're leaving within 90 days.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers rarely ask for it, but having a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host speeds things up if you get pulled for secondary questioning. A simple booking printout or email works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Not formally required for Latvian passport holders, but carrying a credit card and a recent bank statement (or a few hundred USD in cash) covers you if an officer asks how you'll fund your trip.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Hong Kong immigration will deny entry if your passport has less than 6 months of validity remaining from your arrival date. No exceptions. Check your passport now and renew if needed.
Keep your return ticket handy
Immigration officers often ask to see your onward or return ticket. Have a screenshot or printed copy ready — don't rely on finding it in your email while you're at the counter.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG)
Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration'. There are separate queues for Hong Kong residents and visitors. Join the 'Visitors' queue.
2
Present your passport and boarding pass
Hand over your passport and boarding pass to the immigration officer. They'll scan your passport and may ask a few questions (purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying). Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the permitted stay duration (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before you walk away.
4
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, collect your checked luggage from the carousel. Then walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no restricted items. If you're carrying cash over HKD 120,000 (about USD 15,400), use the red channel and declare it.
