Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before departure
Apply for a Chad eVisa at e-visa.td at least 2 weeks before travel. The portal accepts passport scans and a digital photo — processing takes 3–7 business days. Print the approval email and carry it with your passport to the airport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Chad. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration at N'Djamena International Airport asks for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed itinerary or e-ticket ready — a mobile screenshot works, but paper is faster.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Chad. Immigration officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a pre-arranged tour operator.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card showing at least $500 USD available for your stay. Officers rarely ask, but if you look underprepared they may request proof of sufficient cash or card balance.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter Chad. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport (which can be expensive and inconvenient). Get the shot at least 10 days before you travel.
Apply early — no rush service
The Chadian e-visa system doesn't offer expedited processing. Apply at least 3 weeks before your departure to avoid last-minute stress.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa
Go to the official Chadian e-visa website (https://e-visa.td/). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online. Processing usually takes 5–10 business days.
2
Receive and print your visa approval
Once approved, you'll get a PDF by email. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at the airline check-in counter and again at immigration in N'Djamena.
3
Arrive at N'Djamena International Airport
After landing, head to the immigration hall. Join the queue for 'Visas' or 'Foreign Passports'. Hand over your passport, printed visa approval, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. Expect a brief interview about your purpose of visit.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually no customs declaration for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.
