Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the period you plan to stay in Ukraine. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines may enforce 3 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Immigration officers at Kyiv Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave within 90 days.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a notarized invitation letter from a Ukrainian host. Border officers rarely check it for visa-free travellers, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Ukraine does not publish a fixed minimum amount, but carrying at least €50 per day in cash or a credit card statement helps. Officers may ask if you look under-resourced.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Ukraine. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.
Keep your entry stamp safe
The entry stamp in your passport is your proof of legal stay. Without it, you could face problems when leaving. Take a photo of the stamp as a backup.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before travel
Check your passport is valid for 6+ months from entry date. Book a return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of your booking confirmations and travel insurance on your phone.
2
Arrive at Ukrainian border control
At any airport (Kyiv Boryspil, Lviv, Odesa) or land border crossing, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will check your passport, may ask about your trip duration and accommodation, and stamp you in.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry. This stamp is your proof of legal stay. Keep it visible — you'll need it when leaving.
4
Exit Ukraine before 90 days
Count 90 days from your entry stamp. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a temporary residence permit before your 90 days expire.
