Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply online at the Uganda eVisa portal before you travel. The eVisa is mandatory for Latvian passport holders — you cannot get a visa on arrival at Entebbe Airport. Processing takes 2–5 business days, and you'll need to upload a passport photo and your passport data page.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity beyond your intended stay
Your Latvian passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Uganda. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration officers at Entebbe routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Without one, you may be refused entry and put on the next flight out. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Have a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Uganda. Immigration may ask where you're staying — a booking confirmation with the hotel name and address is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Carry evidence of sufficient funds — a bank statement or credit card showing at least $200 USD per day of your stay. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to show you're not working illegally.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You will be turned away at immigration if you don't have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. Get the shot at least 10 days before you fly and keep the yellow card with your passport.
Apply for your eVisa early
Processing times vary. Don't wait until the last minute. Apply at least two weeks before your departure to avoid stress.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug, create an account, fill in your details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa) with a credit card. Processing takes 3–5 business days, sometimes longer.
2
Receive and save your eVisa approval
You'll get an email with a PDF approval. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. Immigration at Entebbe Airport will ask to see it before they stamp you in.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration'. Join the queue for 'Visitors with eVisa'. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket ready. The officer will check your documents, take fingerprints, and stamp your passport. The whole process usually takes 15–30 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. You're in Uganda.
