Libyan passport holders need an eVisa to enter Iraq. The process is entirely online, and you must apply before you travel. As of 2026, the eVisa is the only option for tourism or business visits.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Iraq eVisa
Apply for an Iraq eVisa at the official eVisa portal before travel. The application requires a digital photo, passport scan, and payment. Processing takes 3–5 business days — do not book flights until approved.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
6 months validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Iraq. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Baghdad and Erbil airports routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or digital booking ready — they may deny entry without one.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or sponsor letter
Carry a hotel reservation confirmation or a letter from your Iraqi host/sponsor. Immigration may ask where you are staying — having a printed booking avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Have at least $500 USD in cash or a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Iraq is a cash-heavy economy — credit cards are rarely accepted outside major hotels.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
Libyan passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Iraq. You must have the eVisa approved and printed before you fly. Airlines will check it at check-in.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa PDF, passport scan, and flight bookings in a cloud folder (Google Drive, Dropbox) so you can access them even if your phone is lost or stolen.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Iraqi eVisa website (evisa.iq) and fill out the application. You'll need to upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online. Processing usually takes 3-5 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get a PDF by email. Print at least one copy and save a digital version on your phone. You'll need to show it at the airport check-in counter and again on arrival in Iraq.
3
Arrive at an Iraqi airport
Most travellers fly into Baghdad International Airport (BGW) or Erbil International Airport (EBL). At immigration, present your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. Keep the eVisa with your passport for the duration of your stay.
