Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa on arrival at Maya-Maya Airport in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire Airport. Have 50,000–100,000 XAF in cash (about $85–$170 USD) ready for the fee — cards are not accepted. You also need two passport-sized photos and a printed hotel reservation.Required

Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy of your flight itinerary or e-ticket ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking
Have a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host. Officers at the border sometimes ask to see where you are staying.Recommended

You must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (the yellow card) upon arrival. Without it, you may be vaccinated at the airport or denied entry.Required
Cash only at visa counter
The visa-on-arrival fee must be paid in cash — EUR or USD. No credit cards, no local currency. ATMs at the airport are unreliable for foreign cards. Bring enough cash for the visa and at least a couple of days.

You must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) upon arrival. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport (if available). Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Maya-Maya Airport (Brazzaville)
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. There's a dedicated counter. Queue up, hand over your passport, return ticket, and accommodation proof. Pay the fee in cash (EUR or USD). They'll issue the visa sticker on the spot. Then proceed to passport control.
2
Passport control
Show your passport with the new visa sticker. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and how long you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp you in. Keep the entry stamp safe — you'll need it when leaving.
3
Baggage claim and customs
Collect your luggage, then walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare. Customs is usually relaxed, but don't bring prohibited items (e.g., drones without permits).

No, the visa on arrival is not extendable. If you need to stay longer, you must leave and re-enter, or apply for a different visa type before travel.
Yes, Congo requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers over 1 year old. You'll need to show the yellow card (International Certificate of Vaccination) at immigration. No card = possible denial of entry or quarantine.
Visa on arrival is also available at Pointe-Noire International Airport. Same process — cash payment, passport validity check, return ticket required.
If you're transiting and not leaving the airport transit area, you don't need a visa. But if you need to enter the country (e.g., overnight layover), you'll need the visa on arrival.
Your passport (6+ months validity), a printed or digital return/onward ticket, and proof of accommodation for your first night. That's it. No bank statements or invitation letters required.
Congo is generally safe for travellers who stick to Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire. Petty crime exists — keep valuables out of sight. Avoid political demonstrations and remote areas without a guide. Check your government's travel advisory before booking.
