Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before departure
Madagascar passport holders need a visa to enter Azerbaijan. Apply online at evisa.gov.az — the official government portal. The eVisa is a single-entry permit valid for 30 days, processing takes up to 3 working days. Print the approval email and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Azerbaijan. Airlines at departure check this before boarding. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Azerbaijani immigration.Required
Return or onward ticket
May be checked at check-in
Azerbaijan immigration and airlines often ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready. This is standard practice for most visa-required entries.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration officers may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel reservation confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and contact details. Booking.com or Airbnb confirmations work fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry bank statements, a credit card, or cash to demonstrate you have enough money for your stay. No fixed amount is published, but around $50–$100 per day is a safe benchmark. ATMs are available in Baku but less reliable outside the capital.Recommended
E-visa only — no visa on arrival
Madagascar passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Azerbaijan. You must apply for an e-visa at evisa.gov.az before you travel. Processing takes up to 3 business days, so plan ahead.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Azerbaijan. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the e-visa. Immigration will deny entry otherwise.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for e-visa online
Go to evisa.gov.az, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee (around $20 USD). Processing takes up to 3 business days. You'll receive the visa by email as a PDF.
2
Print or save your e-visa
Print a paper copy and also save the PDF on your phone. Immigration at Baku's Heydar Aliyev International Airport will scan the barcode at passport control.
3
Arrive at Baku airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport, printed e-visa, and boarding pass ready. The officer will stamp your passport and let you through.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods over $10,000 or restricted items.
