Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid only for the period you plan to stay in Hong Kong. Airlines sometimes enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Hong Kong
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Have access to enough funds for your stay — a bank statement or credit card works. No set minimum amount is published, but showing you can cover expenses is smart.Recommended
14-day limit is strict
You cannot extend your stay beyond 14 days. Overstaying even by one day can result in a fine and a record that may affect future visits. Plan your exit carefully.
No visa needed, but be prepared
While there's no visa application, immigration officers still have discretion to deny entry. Always carry proof of your return ticket and accommodation. A friendly, clear answer to their questions goes a long way.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Print or screenshot confirmations. Consider getting travel insurance and a local eSIM.
2
Arrive at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG)
Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration'. There are separate queues for Hong Kong residents and visitors. Join the 'Visitors' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The immigration officer may ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying, and your return flight details. Answer clearly and honestly. They may also ask to see your return ticket or accommodation confirmation.
4
Receive entry stamp and collect luggage
If everything is in order, the officer will stamp your passport with a 14-day visa-free entry. Proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Hong Kong.
