Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for your Oman eVisa at the Royal Oman Police eVisa portal. Processing takes 1-3 business days — do not book flights until approved. The eVisa is single entry and valid for 30 days from issue date.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival in Oman. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Keep a copy of your hotel reservation or a letter from your host. Officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Carry a bank statement or enough cash to cover your stay. While not always checked, having proof of at least 500 OMR (approx. 1,300 USD) avoids delays.Recommended
No visa on arrival
Madagascar passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Oman. You must have an approved eVisa before you travel. Airlines will check this at check-in.
eVisa is tied to your passport
The eVisa is linked to your passport number. If you renew your passport after getting the eVisa, you'll need to apply again with the new passport details.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.rop.gov.om and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, and accommodation address. Pay the fee online with a credit card. Processing usually takes 1-3 business days, but apply at least a week before your trip to be safe.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get the eVisa as a PDF via email. Print a copy and save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and at immigration in Muscat.
3
Arrive at Muscat International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Have your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket ready. The officer will check your documents, take a photo, and stamp your passport. The whole process usually takes 10-15 minutes if you have everything ready.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's nothing special to declare for most tourists. Exit into the arrivals hall where taxis and car rentals are available.
