Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Brunei. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Brunei
Immigration officers at Brunei International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Brunei. Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have at least BND 500 (or equivalent in cash or credit card) available. Immigration can ask to see proof of funds, though this is rare for short visa-free visits.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity before boarding. If you have less than 6 months left, you will not be allowed to fly to Brunei. Renew your passport first.
No visa, but have your documents ready
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration may ask for your return ticket and accommodation proof. Keep them handy on your phone or printed.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave for the airport, check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date), print or screenshot your return ticket, and have your first night's hotel booking ready. If you're flying from Yangon, you'll go through Myanmar immigration first.
2
Arrive at Brunei International Airport (BWN)
After landing in Bandar Seri Begawan, follow signs to 'Immigration' for foreign passports. Join the queue for non-ASEAN nationals. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in for up to 14 days.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. There's a customs declaration if you're carrying more than BND 2000 or restricted goods. Otherwise, walk straight out.
