Myanmar passport holders need an eVisa to enter DR Congo. This online system launched in 2025 and covers most short visits. Plan ahead — processing can take up to a week.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a DR Congo eVisa at visa.gouv.cd at least 2 weeks before departure. The eVisa is a single-entry permit valid for up to 90 days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at N'Djili Airport will check it before stamping you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from DR Congo. Airlines at Yangon International Airport will enforce this before boarding. Carry at least two blank visa pages.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit required
Immigration at N'Djili Airport routinely asks for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone. A ticket to a neighboring country (Rwanda, Uganda, Angola) works as long as it's within your eVisa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking recommended
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in DR Congo. Immigration officers sometimes ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A booking on Booking.com or Airbnb works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Have at least $500 USD in cash or a recent bank statement showing sufficient funds. DR Congo is a cash-heavy country — most hotels and taxis expect payment in USD or Congolese francs. ATMs are unreliable outside Kinshasa.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show proof of yellow fever vaccination at immigration. No certificate = possible denial of entry or quarantine. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.
Cash is king in DR Congo
ATMs are unreliable outside major hotels. Bring enough US dollars in small bills ($1, $5, $10) for taxis, food, and incidentals. The local currency is Congolese franc, but dollars are widely accepted.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa
Go to the official DR Congo visa portal (visa.gouv.cd). Fill in the application, upload a passport photo and your passport data page, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3–7 business days. You'll receive an approval PDF by email — print it and save a copy on your phone.
2
Prepare your documents
Gather your passport (valid 6+ months), printed eVisa, return ticket, and hotel booking. Keep them together in a folder. Also download offline maps of Kinshasa or Lubumbashi — internet can be patchy.
3
Arrive at the airport
At N'djili Airport (Kinshasa) or Luano Airport (Lubumbashi), head to immigration. Present your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket. You'll be asked your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly. The officer may take a photo and fingerprints. Entry is usually straightforward if your documents are in order.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. Declare any large sums of cash (over $10,000 equivalent). Outside the terminal, use a pre-arranged taxi or hotel transfer — avoid unofficial drivers.
