What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official El Salvador eVisa portal. Fill in your personal details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee — typically $30–$50 USD. Processing takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the approved eVisa by email.
2
Prepare your documents
Print or save on your phone: the eVisa approval email, your passport (valid 6+ months), return/onward ticket, and first-night hotel booking. Also have travel insurance details handy.
3
Arrive at the airport in El Salvador
At San Salvador International Airport (SAL), proceed to the immigration hall. Join the queue for foreign passports. Hand over your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. Answer any questions clearly. You'll get an entry stamp valid for up to 90 days.
4
Exit immigration and collect luggage
After the stamp, collect your checked bags from the carousel, then walk through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're now in El Salvador.
