Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply online at the Uganda eVisa portal before travel. The application takes about 15 minutes — upload your passport photo and bio page. Approval usually comes within 3-5 business days, but apply at least a week before your flight to be safe.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry into Uganda. Airlines at Yangon International Airport will check this before letting you board.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration officers at Entebbe Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or the booking confirmation on your phone ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel reservation confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Uganda. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Evidence of sufficient money for your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card showing you can cover your expenses. The official threshold is $200 USD per day, but in practice officers rarely check unless you look underfunded.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory
You must show a valid yellow fever vaccination card (yellow card) at immigration. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport — which can cost time and money.
Apply for the eVisa at least a week early
Processing takes 3–5 business days, but delays happen. Don't wait until the last minute. The official portal is visas.immigration.go.ug — avoid third-party sites that charge extra.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Uganda eVisa portal at visas.immigration.go.ug. Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online (around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing takes 3–5 business days, but apply at least a week before travel.
2
Receive and print the eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get an email with a PDF. Print two copies — one to hand over at immigration, one as backup. Also save a digital copy on your phone.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
At Entebbe, follow signs to 'Visa/Immigration'. Join the queue for 'eVisa holders'. Present your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. The officer will stamp your passport and let you through. The whole process usually takes 15–30 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. You may be asked to show your yellow fever vaccination card at customs. Then walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare.
