What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kigali International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. There's a dedicated counter. Queue up, fill out a short arrival card (handed out on the plane or at the counter), and present your passport, return ticket, and accommodation booking.

Hand over USD 50 cash (or pay by card). The officer will process your visa — takes about 5–10 minutes. You'll get a sticker in your passport.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. All official land border crossings in Rwanda issue visas on arrival for Mongolian passport holders. The process is the same — show your passport, return ticket, accommodation, and pay USD 50 cash. But note: land border posts may not accept credit cards, so bring US dollars.
The standard visa on arrival is valid for 30 days from the date of entry. It's a single-entry visa. If you leave Rwanda and want to come back, you'll need a new visa.
No. The visa on arrival is not extendable. If you need to stay longer than 30 days, you must apply for a different visa type before you travel (e.g., a visitor's visa through the Rwandan embassy or an e-visa).
Immigration will likely deny your visa on arrival. You must show proof of onward travel — a flight out, a bus ticket to a neighboring country, or a ferry booking. A screenshot on your phone is acceptable.
Yes. Rwanda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers arriving from countries with yellow fever risk. Mongolia is not a risk country, but if you've recently travelled to any endemic area (e.g., parts of Africa or South America), you'll need the certificate. Even if you're coming directly from Mongolia, it's safer to get the vaccine — border officials sometimes ask randomly.
At Kigali Airport, you can pay in US dollars cash or by credit card. At land borders, only US dollars cash is accepted. Rwandan francs are not accepted for the visa fee. Bring crisp, undamaged USD bills.
You will be denied a visa on arrival. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling.
