What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: passport, photos, travel insurance, flight and hotel bookings, bank statements, and the completed visa application form. Make copies of everything.
2
Book an appointment at the Slovak embassy or consulate
Contact the Slovak embassy in Ulaanbaatar or the nearest Slovak consulate that handles visa applications. Appointments are usually required — walk-ins are rarely accepted. Expect to wait a few weeks for an available slot.
3
Submit your application in person
Attend your appointment with all original documents plus photocopies. You'll be interviewed briefly, and your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) will be taken. The visa fee is typically €80 for adults, €40 for children 6–12, free for under-6s.
4
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days. It can be extended to 30 or even 60 days if more checks are needed. Do not book non-refundable flights until you have the visa.
5
Collect your passport
Once approved, your passport with the visa sticker will be returned to you. Check the visa dates and conditions immediately — if there's an error, report it right away.
6
Enter Slovakia
At the border (airport or land crossing), present your passport with the visa. The officer may ask for your return ticket and proof of accommodation. Answer clearly and honestly. You'll be stamped in and allowed to stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
