Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Armenia. Airlines at check-in may ask for 6 months validity beyond your departure date, but Armenian border control only requires validity covering your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Armenia
Immigration officers at Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave within the 180-day visa-free period.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a hotel booking. A printed reservation confirmation or a letter from a host with their address in Armenia works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Armenia doesn't have a fixed minimum amount, but carrying around $50–$100 per day in cash or having a credit card with available balance covers you. ATMs are widely available in Yerevan.Recommended
180 days per calendar year
The 180-day visa-free stay is counted per calendar year, not per entry. If you stay 180 days in one go, you must leave and cannot return visa-free until the next calendar year.
No visa, no fee, no fuss
Maltese passport holders enjoy one of the most generous visa-free agreements with Armenia. No application, no payment, no interview needed.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
Whether you fly into Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan or cross by land from Georgia, Iran, or Turkey, head to the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport ready.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport to the immigration officer. They will check your photo and validity. You may be asked your purpose of visit and where you're staying.
3
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. No visa sticker is needed. The stamp is your proof of legal stay for up to 180 days.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim (if flying), then walk through customs. There is usually no customs declaration for personal items.
