Malta passport holders must get an eVisa to enter Togo. The entire application is online, and you'll receive approval before you travel. As of 2026, this is the only visa option for tourism or short business visits.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Togo eVisa
Apply online at evisa.gouv.tg before you fly. The eVisa is mandatory for Maltese passport holders — there is no visa on arrival at Lomé Airport. Processing takes 2–3 business days, so apply at least a week before departure.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Maltese passport needs to be valid for at least the entire period you plan to stay in Togo. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Togo
Immigration at Lomé Airport asks for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or the booking confirmation on your phone ready. Without one, you risk being refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Togo. Immigration officers sometimes ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or cash equivalent to roughly 500,000 CFA (~€760) for a short stay. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to show you have enough money for your time in Togo.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
Do not travel to Togo without an approved eVisa. There is no visa-on-arrival for Malta passport holders. You will be refused entry and sent back.
Yellow fever vaccine required
You must show proof of yellow fever vaccination (yellow card) upon arrival. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before your trip. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport (at your own cost).

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Togolese eVisa portal (evisa.gouv.tg). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (typically 30,000–50,000 XOF, roughly €45–€75). Processing takes 2–5 business days. You'll receive the approved eVisa by email as a PDF.
2
Print or save your eVisa
Once approved, print a paper copy and also save the PDF on your phone. Immigration at Lomé–Tokoin Airport (LFW) will ask to see it before they stamp you in.
3
Arrival at Lomé Airport
After landing, follow signs to immigration. Have your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket ready. The officer will check your details, take a fingerprint scan (sometimes), and stamp your passport. The whole process usually takes 10–20 minutes if you have everything ready.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel, then walk through customs. There's usually no baggage check for tourists, but don't bring prohibited items.
