Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before you fly
You need an eVisa to enter DR Congo. Apply at the official DR Congo eVisa portal at visa.gouv.cd — processing takes a few business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay
Your Mexican passport needs at least one blank page for entry stamps. DR Congo does not enforce a strict 6-month validity rule, but your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Immigration will ask for it
You must show a return or onward flight ticket when you arrive at Kinshasa or Lubumbashi airport. Immigration officers check this consistently — have a printed copy or a screenshot ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in DR Congo. Immigration may ask for it during the entry interview.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card ready to demonstrate you have enough money for your trip. Immigration officers occasionally ask for this at the border.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine required
You must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) to enter DR Congo. Immigration checks this at the airport. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.
Local SIM or eSIM recommended
Mobile data is cheap in DR Congo. An Airalo eSIM activates as soon as you land — no need to queue at a shop. Useful for maps, rideshares, and WhatsApp.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa
Go to visa.gouv.cd, fill out the form, upload your passport scan and photo, pay the fee (around $50–$100 depending on processing time), and wait for approval. Processing usually takes 3–7 business days.
2
Prepare your documents
Print or save your eVisa approval, passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. Keep them together in a folder or on your phone for quick access.
3
Arrive at N'djili Airport (FIH)
At Kinshasa's main airport, go to the immigration desk. Present your passport, eVisa, and return ticket. The officer may ask about your accommodation and purpose of visit. Answer clearly and politely.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually a quick bag check. Exit into the arrivals hall where drivers and hotel reps wait.
