Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Mexican passport needs to be valid only for the time you plan to stay in Liechtenstein. Airlines may still ask for 6 months validity — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration at the border may ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Liechtenstein has no airport — you'll enter via Switzerland or Austria, both Schengen members.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed or digital hotel confirmation, or a signed invitation letter from your host in Liechtenstein. Border officers rarely ask, but it's one less thing to scramble for at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to roughly 100 CHF per day of your stay. Liechtenstein uses the Swiss franc — ATMs are plentiful in Vaduz and Schaan.Recommended
Schengen 90-day rule applies
Your 90-day visa-free stay counts across all 27 Schengen countries, not just Liechtenstein. If you've already spent time in France, Italy, or any other Schengen country earlier in the year, that time counts toward your 90-day limit. Track your days carefully.
No airport in Liechtenstein
You'll fly into Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland, then take a train (about 1.5 hours) or drive to Liechtenstein. Border control happens at Zurich, not at the Liechtenstein border. There are no additional checks when crossing from Switzerland into Liechtenstein.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
Liechtenstein does not have its own airport. You'll fly into Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland, then take a train or drive to Liechtenstein. At Zurich, you'll clear Swiss/Schengen border control — that's where your passport gets stamped.
2
Present your documents
At passport control, hand over your Mexican passport. The officer may ask about your trip purpose, how long you're staying, and where you're staying. Have your return ticket and accommodation confirmation ready.
3
Receive entry stamp
If everything is in order, the officer stamps your passport with the entry date. This starts your 90-day Schengen clock. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Travel to Liechtenstein
Once you're through Swiss border control, there are no additional checks when crossing into Liechtenstein. It's an open border within the Schengen area. Just follow the road signs to Vaduz.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 90-day visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or family visits only. You cannot take up employment or run a business. For work, you need a separate work permit, which your employer must arrange before you arrive.
The 90 days apply to the entire Schengen area, not just Liechtenstein. Every day you spend in any Schengen country counts. The clock resets after you've been outside the Schengen area for 90 consecutive days. Use the EU's short-stay calculator online to track your days.
Overstaying is a violation of Schengen rules. You could be fined, banned from re-entering the Schengen area for up to 5 years, or both. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a national visa or residence permit before your 90 days expire.
No. Since you're entering the Schengen area at Zurich Airport, you go through Swiss border control there. The same visa-free rules apply: you can stay up to 90 days in the entire Schengen zone, which includes both Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Extensions are not granted for tourism. The only way to stay longer is to apply for a national visa (type D) or a residence permit before your 90 days expire. This requires a valid reason like work, study, or family reunification, and you must apply at the Liechtenstein immigration office in Vaduz.
Always carry your passport with the entry stamp. Liechtenstein has no internal border checks, but police can ask for ID at any time. A photocopy or digital photo of your passport is not enough — you need the physical document.
No. Liechtenstein is part of the Schengen area. If you're already in another Schengen country (e.g., Germany or Austria) on a valid visa or visa-free stay, you can cross into Liechtenstein without any additional visa or permit.
