Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Uganda eVisa
Apply before travel
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official Uganda eVisa portal. The application takes about 15 minutes — you'll need a passport scan, a digital photo, and your flight itinerary. Processing usually takes 2–5 business days, so apply at least a week before your trip.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity
Your Mexican passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Uganda. Immigration at Entebbe Airport checks this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding in Mexico City or any transit point.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Uganda immigration requires proof of a return or onward ticket before they let you through. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready — they check this at the visa-on-arrival counter even if you already have an eVisa.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
While not always asked, having a hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from your host can speed things up. If you're staying with friends, get them to write a letter with their contact details and address.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Immigration officers may ask how you'll support yourself during your stay. Carry a bank statement showing at least $500 USD or a credit card with a decent limit — showing $100–200 per day of your trip is a safe bet.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine required
Uganda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel and carry your yellow card — immigration may ask for it at the border.
eVisa is valid for 90 days from issue
Your eVisa is valid for 90 days from the date it's issued, not from your arrival. If you apply too early, it might expire before you enter. Apply 2–4 weeks before your trip.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug and fill out the application. Upload a recent passport photo, your passport bio page, and your accommodation booking. Pay the fee (around $50 USD for a single-entry tourist visa) with a credit card. Processing usually takes 2–5 business days.
2
Receive your eVisa approval
You'll get an email with an approval letter. Print it out and keep a digital copy on your phone. The visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, and you can stay up to 90 days per entry.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
When you land, head to immigration. Present your passport, printed eVisa approval, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 10–15 minutes if you have everything ready.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.
