Malaysian passport holders can enter Belgium without a visa for stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This covers tourism, business meetings, and short-term visits. As of 2026, Schengen Area rules apply, so your 90-day limit includes all Schengen countries combined.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Belgium. Airlines and border officers check this at check-in and upon arrival.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Belgian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a signed letter from your host with their address and contact details. Officers rarely check this for short stays, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least €45 per day of your stay. Belgian border officers ask for this mainly if you look like you might overstay or work illegally.Recommended
90-day limit applies to all Schengen countries
Your 90 days are shared across all 27 Schengen countries. If you spend 30 days in France, then 30 in Germany, you only have 30 left for Belgium. Track your days carefully.
Keep your return ticket handy
Immigration officers at Brussels Airport often ask to see proof of onward travel. A screenshot on your phone is fine — just make sure it's easy to find.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the Schengen border
At Brussels Airport (BRU) or any other Schengen entry point, join the queue for non-EU passport holders. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation booking ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp it, and ask a few questions (purpose of visit, length of stay). Answer honestly and briefly.
2
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. This stamp is your proof of legal entry. Keep your passport safe — you'll need it for hotel check-ins and any police checks.
3
Enjoy your stay
You can travel freely within the Schengen Area for up to 90 days. Keep your passport and a copy of your return ticket handy. If you overstay, you risk fines and future entry bans.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 90-day visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, and short-term visits only. You cannot take paid employment or study for more than 90 days without a proper visa or permit.
Overstaying is a violation of Schengen rules. You may face a fine (typically €100–€300), a formal warning, or even a re-entry ban of up to 5 years. Always leave before your 90 days are up.
For stays under 90 days, no registration is required. If you plan to stay longer (e.g., for study or work), you'll need to apply for a residence permit at the local commune (gemeente/commune) within 8 days of arrival.
Extensions are not granted for tourism or business visits. The only way to stay longer is to apply for a long-stay visa (e.g., work, study, family reunion) before you travel. Overstaying is not an option.
A damaged passport (torn, water-damaged, or with missing pages) will likely be rejected at the border. Get a new passport before you travel. Airlines may also refuse boarding.
No. Malaysian passport holders do not need a transit visa for Belgium or any Schengen airport. You can stay in the international transit zone without a visa.
