Malaysian passport holders can enter Cyprus without a visa for stays up to 90 days. This policy remains unchanged in 2026. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Cyprus. Cyprus does not enforce the 6-month validity rule for Malaysian passport holders, but airlines may still check for at least 6 months validity — confirm with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cyprus
Immigration officers at Larnaca and Paphos airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready. A bus or ferry ticket to another Schengen country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. A booking printout or digital copy on your phone is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry at least €50–€100 per day of your stay in cash, bank statements, or a credit card. Cyprus rarely enforces a fixed amount, but having a recent bank statement or a card with a visible limit avoids delays.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. Airlines check this before you board. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding — no exceptions.
Keep your return ticket handy
Immigration at Larnaca and Paphos airports routinely asks for proof of onward travel. A screenshot of your booking on your phone is acceptable — just make sure it's easy to find.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at passport control
At Larnaca or Paphos airport, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask about your stay duration and accommodation.
2
Present documents if asked
If the officer asks, show your return ticket (screenshot is fine) and first night's hotel booking. They rarely ask for proof of funds, but have a bank statement or credit card handy just in case.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. Check the stamp is legible before walking away. That stamp marks the start of your 90-day visa-free period.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Cyprus (or the Schengen area) before 90 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, or a ban from re-entering.
Northern Cyprus (the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) has separate entry rules. Malaysian passport holders can enter visa-free for up to 90 days. However, crossing from the south to the north is possible at checkpoints like Ledra Street in Nicosia, but your entry stamp may cause issues if you later try to enter Greece or the Republic of Cyprus again. It's best to check current travel advisories.
You will likely be denied boarding by your airline or refused entry at passport control. Renew your passport before traveling. The 6-month validity is strictly enforced.
It's not routinely asked, but immigration officers can request evidence you can support yourself during your stay. A credit card or bank statement showing a few hundred euros is usually sufficient.
No. The 90-day visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or family visits only. For work or study, you must apply for the appropriate visa or residence permit before traveling.
Overstaying even by a day can result in a fine (typically around €50–100), a formal warning, and a note in your record. Longer overstays can lead to deportation and a ban from re-entering Cyprus or the Schengen area for up to 5 years.
No. There is no arrival declaration or online pre-registration for Malaysian passport holders. Just show up with your passport and onward ticket.
