Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a visa at the Ukrainian embassy or consulate
Malaysian passport holders need a visa before traveling to Ukraine. Apply at the nearest Ukrainian embassy or consulate — processing takes up to 10 working days. You'll need a completed application form, passport photos, travel insurance, and proof of accommodation.Visa info on MFA siteRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Ukraine. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Ukrainian law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Border officers may ask for a return or onward ticket to confirm you'll leave Ukraine before your visa expires. Have a printed or digital copy ready — airlines also check this at check-in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Immigration may ask where you're staying — have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. This is not always checked, but having it avoids delays at the border.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Officers can request proof you have enough money for your trip — around $50 USD per day is a safe benchmark. A recent bank statement or credit card is usually sufficient.Recommended
eVisa only — no visa on arrival
Malaysian passport holders cannot get a visa at the airport or border. You must have the eVisa approved before you fly. Airlines check this before boarding.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Ukraine, not from your departure date. Double-check before you apply.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.gov.ua, fill out the application, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around 20–30 USD depending on processing speed). Wait 3–5 business days for approval. You'll receive a PDF — print it and save it on your phone.
2
Pack your documents
Before you leave for the airport, gather: printed eVisa, passport (6+ months validity), return ticket confirmation, first night accommodation booking, and travel insurance policy. Put them in a folder you can grab quickly.
3
Check in and board
At Kuala Lumpur International Airport (or your departure airport), the airline will check your passport validity and eVisa. They may also ask for your return ticket. Show your documents calmly — this is routine.
4
Arrive at a Ukrainian airport
You'll land at Boryspil (Kyiv), Lviv, Odesa, or Kharkiv. Follow signs to 'Passport Control' (non-EU queue). Hand over your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask: 'How long are you staying? Where are you staying?' Answer briefly and honestly. They'll stamp your passport — that's your entry.
5
Exit the airport
After passport control, collect your luggage and walk through the 'Nothing to Declare' green channel if you have no goods to declare. You're in.

Yes, the eVisa is valid at all official border crossings — airports, land borders, and seaports. Just present your passport and eVisa at the checkpoint.
