Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Vanuatu. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vanuatu
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Port Vila's Bauerfield Airport. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your booking ready — they won't accept verbal promises.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked resort.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Have access to at least 50,000 VUV (about $420 USD) per person for the duration of your visit. A bank statement or credit card works — they rarely ask, but it's a quick way to avoid delays.Recommended
No visa needed, but be prepared
You don't need to apply for anything before you go. Just show up with a valid passport, a return ticket, and proof of accommodation. The whole process at Bauerfield Airport usually takes 10–15 minutes.
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Vanuatu. Airlines check this before you board — if you're short, you won't fly.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Bauerfield International Airport (VLI)
After landing in Port Vila, follow signs to 'Immigration'. There are usually two queues — one for Ni-Vanuatu and residents, one for visitors. Join the visitor queue.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport and return ticket (printed or on phone). The officer will check your passport validity and stamp you in. No forms to fill unless you're staying longer than 30 days.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. Declare any food, plants, or animal products. You're free to go after that.
