Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Kosovo. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Kosovo law, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kosovo
Immigration officers at Pristina International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation email or a letter from your host with their address and contact number is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers can ask for evidence of sufficient funds. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least €100 per day of your stay.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Kosovo, not from when you leave. If it expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding or entry. Check your passport now.
No visa, no fee, no forms
Malaysian passport holders get a full 90-day visa-free stay with no application, no fee, and no forms to fill. Just show up with a valid passport and a return ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at border
Whether you fly into Pristina International Airport or cross by land from Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, or Albania, you'll go through passport control. At Pristina Airport, the queue is usually short — 10–20 minutes.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your Malaysian passport with at least 6 months validity and a blank page. The officer will scan it, stamp it, and hand it back. No forms to fill, no fee to pay.
3
Answer questions if asked
The officer may ask: 'How long are you staying?', 'Where are you staying?', 'Do you have a return ticket?' Answer honestly. Have your hotel address and return ticket ready on your phone.
4
Collect your passport and proceed
Once stamped, you're free to enter. The stamp shows the date of entry and the maximum stay (90 days). Keep your passport safe — you'll need it for hotels and any police checks.

Frequently asked questions

No. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Kosovo. If it expires sooner, you'll be denied entry. Renew your passport first.
Yes. The visa-free stay is strictly 90 days within any 180-day period. For longer stays, you must apply for a temporary residence permit at the Kosovo Ministry of Internal Affairs in Pristina before your 90 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban.
No. The visa-free period is not extendable. You must leave Kosovo before day 90. If you need to stay longer, apply for a residence permit before your 90 days expire.
That's fine. There are several land border crossings between Serbia and Kosovo. Use the same process: present your passport, get stamped. Note that Serbia considers Kosovo part of its territory, so you may get an additional stamp. No special paperwork needed.
No. For stays under 90 days, there's no registration requirement. Your passport stamp is sufficient. Hotels will register you automatically if you stay at one.
No, it's not mandatory at the border. But it's strongly recommended. A simple accident or illness can cost hundreds of euros per day in Kosovo. Get a policy before you travel.
Overstaying is a violation of Kosovo's immigration law. You may be fined (typically €50–€200), banned from re-entering for a period, or both. Always leave before day 90.
